Come Explore Nature With Me
Come with me on a journey discovering the creatures, plants, and landscapes in my native Great Lakes ecosystem. From the smallest butterflies to fast moving salmon, I’m constantly exploring nature. I am a natural science illustration artist and Wisconsin Master Naturalist devoting my life to conservation, education, and citizen science. Inspired by my Dutch horticulture heritage and historic natural science art, I combine my love of field sketching and fiber arts to create quilted art and teach nature journaling.
Researching the plant, animal, and insect is key to capturing the exact representation. From my field darwings and paintings, I create my fiber work in fabric, embroidery, and quilting techniques giving the pieces more depth and texture.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design Natural Science Illustration Program, I also teach nature journaling and art workshops. I will complete my Wild Wonders Foundation Nature Journaling Community Educators program in 2025.
I work alongside her husband Richard Hawkins, a former ceramic artist, and our cat Maxie, in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin studio. My son Jason DeVries and son-in-law Jonas Nahm live in San Francisco, California.
